The first part was promising. Good girl with daddy issues runs in to a bad boy with a traumatic past. For once I thought we were going to get a female lead who is a good person at her core but who isn’t a complete idiot. For example,
she's rightfully suspicious when he randomly shows up at her workplace after they met only once without her giving him the address.
She seemed to have some common sense and self preservation at first until she goes on an actual date with him, after which it’s like she got a lobotomy and her whole personality got wiped out. The second half is just Stockholm syndrome galore. I didn’t buy their “love” at all, I felt like there was no emotional connection between the two main characters, at best they are just horny for each other. He treats her like shit the whole time and she just decides she’s okay with it because of her daddy issues I guess. I also didn’t care about the whole mystery/plot surrounding the drug cartel.
There was an annoying amount of  misogyny and women hating, not just from the male characters, but the narrative itself. Wendy is this virginal, innocent and pure creature who is secretly yearning to be fucked hard and that makes her special. Meanwhile all other women in this book are superficial, evil and vapid. They just jealous of her and they don’t act like people at all, but like caricatures of themselves.
It’s not the worst thing I have read, but it feels like wasted potential.

Content Warnings: sexual content, breathe play, violence, gun violence, blood, gore, torture, death, and murder.
Mention of: child abuse, death of a parent[s], neglect, corruption, and implied pedophilia and child SA.

Yes, just yes. Hook is one of those villains whose violence feels completely justified. 😌 I also loved seeing Wendy evolve and grow confident in herself and her own mind.

Ngl definitely saw the twists coming but they were still fun when revealed.

I will definitely be reading the other books in this series 💜

Predictable af and I knew every plot point as soon as the character involved in said plot point was introduced but damn it I devoured this and had a good ass time. Onto the next.

I had heard a lot about this book, so was really excited to read it. I don’t know if it was just that the audio book narrators were horrible actors, or what, but I really didn’t enjoy this book. It had very little plot and so much violent sexual content it just made me uncomfortable. Perhaps it’s my fault for not reading the content warnings, but I was thoroughly disappointed in how many red flags there were in this book.

you know that one tumblr post that says villains make better love stories because they’d be willing to burn down the world for their loved ones while heroes will always be burdened by their unwavering morals? yeah i’m thinking about that while reading this book

the smut was pretty good! feeling weird how the girl doesn’t know her worth until she gets with the guy! and the guy is literally horrible which i guess is the point but man. if i saw him in real life i think i would run (so unfortunate that he’s hot…) i did not see the twists at the end and i thought the book set them up pretty well. 3/5 for the spice and suspense

Anyone who looks at this man and unironically wants someone like him needs psychiatric help.
With that said, I understand he is a villain and thoroughly enjoyed the book. Although, as a lesbian reading about his perceptions of women made me sick to my stomach.

if I wanted to see a raging misogynistic edgelord talk about how women are beneath him only for him to somehow win the girl with mediocre sex and weird pet names, I'd read fucking Andrew Tate fanfiction, and I reckon I'd still somehow enjoy that more than this book.

I'm sorry but if this is their idea of good smut/relationships, then I am so sorry for straight women.
