| Favorite Quote | God does not play dice with the universe; He plays an ineffable game of His own devising, which might be compared, from the perspective of any of the other players [i.e. everybody], to being involved in an obscure and complex variant of poker in a pitch-dark room, with blank cards, for infinite stakes, with a Dealer who won't tell you the rules, and who smiles all the time.

| My Review | A highly anticipated read. I’ve heard amazing things, and I’ve been dying to watch the TV series! I thought I’d give this a read before watching.

As my rating shows, this book didn’t live up to the hype, but I still enjoyed it. The writing was smooth and playful, the pace was fast and fun, and the plot was one of a kind. It even healed a bit of religious trauma in me!

That being said, my main critique is with the characters. Beyond the banter and witty humor, their personalities fell flat. I do admit, the TV show’s brilliant cast might have set my expectations a bit too high, but I feel my disappointment may have stayed even without the show’s performance. On a lesser note, the humor didn’t always land. I’m not English, nor do I live in Britain, so I assume that to be the reason it fell flat.

Overall, I’m glad I finally got to read this book. Now, onto the show!

Just as good this time around as the first time I read it. Great humor with characters that are easy to want to cheer for!

4.5 stars. An interest tale of good vs evil vs humans. Clever and wittiness throughout the book. My biggest complaint and why I won’t give it five stars is that it jumps around far too much for my liking. Overall a solid read though

What a strange story! Fun and weird. And lots of silliness!

I don't think there's much more I can add to what's already been said about about this brilliant book, other than that Paul Kidby's illustrations, colour and pencil, are gorgeous and definitely complement the material. Looking forward to the TV series!
