I really loved this book and the exploration of one's identity and sexuality.

I really wanted to love this, but I found Noah so entitled, selfish, and immature that I really struggled. I know he is a teenager, and he does have a lot of growth through story, but every time he displayed entitlement, immaturity, or selfishness, I struggled to feel sympathy and got impatient a lot. This is more about me than the book, but I've read a ton of YA and usually don't struggle as much with a character's flaws.

That said, watching the friendship and romantic feelings blossom between Noah and Devin is sweet. The variety of trans representation just within one book is also remarkable.

Becca, Brian, and Devin are strong supporting characters. Definitely recommend - it just wasn't my cup of tea. Strength of writing makes this 3 stars despite my above comments.

didn’t like it. i liked devin, in the kinda way i’ve always liked sweet, soft spoken characters.
read: love interests.
but i was even kinda tired of em by the end.

it hurts me to say it, but super cringy writing. i usually die by “i am cringe but i am free” but it was so much it made it so i didn’t even want to finish it. and the writing is just not good 😭 “he smiled,” “e raised an eyebrow,” “she rolled her eyes.” so much telling and so little showing. and it was a unique premise with what could have been an amazing plot twist if the writing didn’t make everything so damn predictable.

main character is INSUFFERABLE and he *technically* has character development but it’s not well done and doesn’t seem genuine. dude can’t make a responsible, thoughtful, or good-in-any-way decision to save his LIFE. i LOVE characters with flaws but it’s just as important to give your character some real good traits, at least by the end, as it is to give them some bad, unless the character’s incurable insufferability is whole point of the story (think: we need to talk about kevin), and this is just not one of those stories.

I read this in one sitting and it was beautiful. I not normally the type to read romance but this book was definetly an exception. I know it won't be everyone's cup of tea especially due to the miscommunication trope and a mc that many people find annoying but I found it really sweet and light hearted.
also drew is not it

i have mixed feelings about this book. i was so excited to read it and honestly i still am thankful i did. it was a great story about trans love and really finding the meaning of true love and understanding that love isn’t some perfect story.
i loved devin, i was very upset at first bc i truly had faith in drew and noah’s relationship but i’m glad the story ended the way it did. the characters personality all seems so much more thrilled and lighthearted they don’t seem stressful? if that makes sense the ending made me so happy and i’m glad the meetcutediary blog finally got commotions and got to express real trans love stories. lowkey wish the whole story would have just been about devin and noah

Noah is an annoying character, and even more annoying as the narrator. Drew is only likeable for part of the book and the side characters aren't appreciated enough by Noah.

He is a character that has next to no character growth, yet all the characters who surround him act as though he's had an epiphany and has done a complete 180.
