Dammit, this makes me want to rewatch the anime. I saw season 1 ages ago, but never watched the future seasons when they came out. I remembered how dark and gory the show was -- while also trending increasingly toward the silly, I felt. So I never continued. But this reminds me how compelling and different the set-up is. What an intriguing, original, and gut-punchy premise! Some of the action is a bit harder to follow in the manga, and the background characters don't pop as much, but it's hard not to be hooked.

*grumble* Off to Hulu I guess...

I just finished watching the anime yesterday and it is crazy how much foreshadowing there was in the beginning and also how much Isayama's art style has improved since.

What is this weird thing I just read? Why am I so drawn to it? I guess I’ll keep reading!

I think the story is compelling, albeit a bit fast-paced. The last chapter really pulled at my emotions so I’m definitely continuing with the series. That said, the art style is sub-standard to me and since the art of manga is always important to me, I have to take my rating down. I still recommend it but the art definitely took me out of immersion. 3.5 stars.

Interesting plot but zero connection to any of the characters
