Let's just say, everything went to shit.

I picked this one up right after AOS because I enjoyed Ace of Shades and the development of the characters together and apart. So I went into KOF thinking that maybe there would be more magic, less angst and turmoil, and more development of the plot. There wasn't. There was even more angst between Enne and Levi that, to be honest, was very unnecessary.

I did find that the book was too long and very slow at the beginning. Some parts could have been taken out of it, but overall it was a decent story. I was going to pick up Queen of Volts right after, but I think I'll give myself a break and see if I actually want to come back to it. I'm not sure I will.

What I Did Like:
+Very detailed and multi layered plan, which does make for an interesting story. It’s a lot to follow but it pays off in good ways.
+Enne really comes into her own in this book in a way that works. I wanted to see her be stronger in book 1 and you get that from her here.
+Diversity with no apologies. I love that.

Who Should Read This One:
-Fans of dystopian books with violence and crime will love this one. Add in a dash of slow burn romance and rival gangs and you have a recipe for success.

My Rating: 4 Stars

I really liked the first one, but I found this one to be really repetitive. It could’ve been condensed by a lot, since nothing happened. Just the same movements time after time. I still loved the world and the characters but my god this had middle book syndrome. The ending was fantastic though.
I’m really worried for book 3 now because if a YA book has a bad middle book the whole rest of the series usually sucks too
