Highly emotional read that tackles with mortality and the shifting dynamics of family beautifully. The pacing is quite uneven, and the blurb promises for fairytale/folklore than comes through in the narrative, but the characters feel fleshed out and real. There is a tricky subject which feels dropped into the story with little fanfare and whilst there's some discussion, it feels like an open ended trauma which I am sceptical about how much it explains a character's motives or whatever it's there purely for shock value.
