I really liked this one! I think, both E. L. Massey is growing as a writer, but also I just really liked the characters in this.

I will say the one issue that can arise in their writing that makes if difficult to always get through, is that they continue to add and add more issues. As a result, the endings can rush the conclusion of so many little plot points. I think the desire to add depth to characters comes from fanfiction writing where readers already have this huge wealth of knowledge about characters, but that is built up over series/books/movies etc. sometimes less is more, and different issues to be fleshed out into their own book with the same characters. It's just that 3rd part lull that can impacts the pace.

But characters are lovely as always and the writing just felt more confident!

I had a bit of a love/hate relationship with this book. On the one hand, I really loved the characters and their dynamic together. Despite Rome's rough background, the majority of this book was wonderful fluff. The scenes were the characters were speaking and interacting with each other were definitely the best parts of the book.

Now, on the other, large chunks of this book fell very much into the "telling over showing" category, of which I was not a fan. It was a lot of "Rome thought this" and "Damien did that" instead of just letting the characters interact and showing what was going on. I also feel that a lot of this book would have worked better if the characters were a little older and in college, especially the part with the baby. Also, I was a little disappointed in the lack of hockey content given the series, that both characters were hockey players, and the importance of hockey to the overall plot.

Overall, this was a decent read and I more or less enjoyed it. I didn't like it quite as much as the previous books, but I'm definitely looking forward to the next book.

This was cute, but I had forgotten the details of the book description by the time it came off hold at my library and I just dove right in. So, I was very thrown off when it was mentioned they were still in high school. This fact only became more surprising considering the responsibilities they took on later. These are actual babies doing all this? I get why they wanted to, but I don’t know if it’s all that realistic. Also, it’s extremely light on the hockey. In fact, Maura’s signature Habs hat may be the most consistent hockey we get. The pacing and development felt a bit off at the beginning but I thought it started improving, only for the latter half to delve into everything I thought was unrealistic for teenagers. Also felt like maybe some aspects and characters were underdeveloped, but I think I felt that way about the first book in the series too.
I guess I’m never beating the heartless allegations but I swear it was cute! I kept picking it up! I just don’t know how I feel about it altogether.
