It has been a LONG time since I’ve read a contemporary romance (I’m in my dark romance/fantasy era) but this book was gifted to me by a fan of the series so I gave it a shot.

It took a bit for me to really get into it, but overall I really enjoyed the story. Some parts were predictable but other times I was surprised by the outcome of an arc within the story. The characters are believable and the book touches on some tough, but import, topics. I’m now invested in the residents of Sugarlake and will definitely be reading the other three books in the series.

"We could go our entire lives without speaking, and still, I’d know you in the next one..."

I devoured this book in less than 24 hours and even stayed up to 4am finishing it! For me that's a big deal when I have two young kids awake from 6am! I just couldn't get enough of Chase and Alina's story and I jumped straight in to book 2, Beneath the Stands, as soon as I finsihed this.
Chase and Alina meet as young teenagers and quickly become best friends. Over the years, their relationship grows deeper. However, Chase finds it hard to put his past behind him and old wounds tear them apart. But now Chase Adams is back in Sugarlake and, despite her best efforts, Alina just can't seem to stay away...

"You can’t go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending..."

To be very specific this is a 'childhood friends to lovers to enemies to second chance lovers set in a small town with lots of spice' trope

This book made me so emotional. The things they both went through was heartbreaking especially for being so young. The ending was perfect.
