I liked this one so much that I immediately went back and reread random parts of it just so I could be delighted all over again. I really loved the way magic worked in this book and I particularly enjoyed the twist she took on the story. It just made so much sense and it worked really well in the story. The characters felt like characters- not caricatures- if that makes sense. Thoroughly enjoyable.
Before Midnight is a poorly written retelling on Cinderella. The writing is often times awkward, longwinded, and riddled with grammatical errors.
The characters fall flat, as does the magical element of wishes.
This is a short, simple retelling of Cinderella that could be so much better.

I only knew this was a werewolf book before I read it, not that it was a retelling of Cinderella. Once I realized that, it added a layer to the reading experience. There's a fair bit of gore here, which I'm not that into but it made sense in context.
A re-telling of Cinderella. I found it interesting and overall well done, but wasn’t massively impressed by it. I did think the characterization of the stepmother and stepsisters was well done. [Jan. 2010]
Enchanting story. I loved the fact that her father was still alive. This was a wonderfully written spin on the Cinderella story we all think we know.
I enjoyed the recrafting of the step mother's character, but the story overall was so-so.

Re-read 2021:
It's always a pleasant experience to go back to a book you enjoyed years ago and find that it still holds up. This is a sweet story, and quite enjoyable (even if it does bypass the opportunity to use one of my favorite tropes...).
I particularly like how this retelling manages to make Cinderillion's relationship with her stepmother and stepsisters difficult, without the falling back on the simple device of making them *evil*.

Moderate: Grief, Death of parent
Minor: Kidnapping
There is one kiss, briefly described. There is a bit of danger and adventure, but the tension isn't played up. Magic and wishes are referenced (along with one reference to prayer, oddly) but only in hints of background causes, nothing outright magical is seen.
