I really feel like this duology is underrated. It’s a retelling of The Count of Monte Cristo and its queer! And really good!!! Pick up the first one.
Now I just need to read the original text!

Maybe I wasn’t in the right mood to read this, because I found myself somewhat irritated by the characters and the story. I really enjoyed the first book, so I’m disappointed here. The pacing was off to me, and the darkness and bleakness really got me down. I wanted more out of Amaya and Cayo’s relationship too. And after 400 pages of bad things happening constantly, it wrapped up super quickly and neatly, which felt off.
*also minor complaint is that I reeeeeeaaallllly wanted a map to help orient me.
adventurous dark medium-paced

i am incredibly satisfied with that ending. also @ amaya: i love you ur doing amazing sweetie

I think this was a great continuation of the first one. Everything ended nicely and I loved the characters because they were messy and made mistakes and felt real and relatable. I think the only thing I didn’t like was that the ending felt very rushed from how she set up everything in the middle and beginning, I think we could have had more of a stretched out ending but it wasn’t bad. I still enjoyed this duology!

This was a decent conclusion to this duology. I really enjoyed all of the characters in this story and there were a few twists that surprised me. The ending was a little rushed. I honestly thought with 20 pages left that this series would get a third book. It took me a while to read but overall still an enjoyable book.
