a very important work of art, especially during times like these where shameless censorship runs rampant. there were some very disturbing moments here (and I'm not talking about the torture)

ive read this book like 8 times and it only get more relatable everytime and thats scary

Themes or characters that resonated with me:  It is easy to empathize with Winston Smith. His constant internal monologue about his situation, about other people, expectations, fitting in, defiant thoughts, are all very relatable to my everyday life.
Emotions, thoughts, or memories it brought up in me:  Thinking of Winston and Julia, it does stir deeply human emotions of the desire for connectedness and reality. The end of the book shows that sometimes it is more comforting and less anguishing to simply submit no matter the cost.
Opinion about the author or writing style: This book highlights the dangers of a society in which all information is coming from second hand sources. Today it is almost impossible to know what is real and what is truth. Every piece of information we consume is through social media or other internet sources, which are so easily manipulated by those in power that the only truth we can hold on to is our own lived experiences. This is not just a problem of the right or left but of all information in our society. It is essentially impossible to get anything from a source without at least some bias.
Favorite Passage:
“But if thought corrupts language, language can also corrupt thought.”
_________
“If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face—for ever.”
