I really loved this book, it isn't my favorite thing I've read so far this year. However, I enjoyed it I read this for book club, and I was just grateful that it wasn't about a bunch of white people. I usually get mad about alternating time lens. However, I think it was handled very well and getting the background about the Grandma's life in Tokyo was my favorite part of the book. I was taken aback every time they mentioned Dallas or Fort Worth simply because I live there.

Well written story. I learned a lot about Japanese war bride experience and very much appreciated that. Loved all of the characters, except for James, flaws and all. Thank you!

I’ll be honest I had to push myself not to give up on this book though I fully admit I wasn’t in a great reading headspace the last month or so. I enjoyed Mineko’s storyline most and would have liked more of it. I did like the relationship between Lia and Mineko and how it deepened as the story progressed. I’m open to read more from this author in the future.
