Fictionalized story about a real woman named Rachel Carson. As a girl who loved science, she became interested in biology when she was in college. Rachel was important because she wrote beautifully about the earth and the world around us. How mankind and nature are intertwined. At a time when scientists typically wrote in difficult to understand language, she wrote for the world to understand and appreciate. She also warned of the dangers of DDT – the cancer causing chemical that was once used to kill lice and as an insecticide on crops.
This is a story of her journey. A fantastic choice with Earth Day coming up soon.

For a tender young naturalist, this is a perfect middle grade novel

I knew nothing about Rachel Carson before reading this beautiful novel in verse. What a remarkable life she lived. I am always inspired by stories of women who push against the social norms in history, so I could not put this book down. Looking forward to hopefully learning more about Rachel Carson!
