I found this book to be very dull and I had trouble plodding through to the end.
slow-paced
Very boring. Didn't have much of a storyline for me. Just seemed like life but not a story.
This advance reader's copy has been floating around work and it was my turn so I read it without reading the back so I had no idea what it was about, only that I enjoyed this author's "Orphan Train". It was a nice read and definitely the right timing considering I had just come off of a couple of extremely heavy read.
It's historical fiction loosely based off the life of Christina from Andrew Wyeth's "Christina's World", a famous painting. It was interesting to read of her life and what it was like to live on a farm in the time period of 1910-1920. I found myself drawn into a world where your daily life consisted of domestic chores and found myself grateful for things like electricity, plumbing, and washing machines.
Her life was fairly tragic as she had a degenerative muscle disease at a time when there was nothing known about how to treat such things and a time where so many died from things like simple fevers and infections. Made me wonder if future generations will look back and be appalled that we died from things like cancer and heart disease.
Overall, she was easy to like and it was intriguing to read of social norms and societal expectations during this time of history and I found it relaxing and engaging. I didn't know much about Andrew Wyeth and this book piqued my curiosity enough that I looked up info about him.

I give it 3.5 stars. It's interesting and I was curious about the while thing would end, but 4 stars seemed too many.
