this is definitely the type of book that needs another reading. The POV is so unique and complex but as a result it ends up being confusing and hard to follow. It’s such an interesting, fascinating, and compelling story but I found myself having to review sections to make sense of things.
That being said, this book was SPOOKY. Especially the beginning. I find it very hard to be scared by a book, and I’ve read a few Stephen King, but this one was WILD. It was actually so terrifying and chilling I had ACTUAL CHILLS!
There were some characters (the twins) that I was dying to learn more about and see more of and was disappointed when I didn’t get to learn more about them.
This novel is pretty graphic in many ways and includes lots of talk of consent and actions being taken against non-consenting individuals, so proceed with caution with that.

the highlight of this book was - thought that was so beautifully and scarily and stressfully written!!!! everything after that felt like a big anticlimax imo, or at least went in the least interesting direction i imagined the plot could go in.
look, i was rooting for the hivemind, okay. down with individuality!!!!
there were some great moments of very grim body horror and the setting was interesting.
also, i've reread wuthering heights recently and if you squint i can see how some elements are broadly the same, but it's a massive letdown if you go into this book actually expecting "wuthering heights with worms". not the author's fault, of course, but it does feel a little like false advertising.
