A very intriguing and fast read, and painfully timely. Loved the way the author carried themes over from the censored/books library into the plot, and the musings about the true power of words and literature were on the money. Despite being relatively short, sometimes the plot felt a tiny bit unruly and the pacing was slightly uneven at times (sometimes on purpose, sometimes not, it felt) but regardless, this was excellent and I'd gladly read more by this author — as it happens, this is actually the first book I've read that was translated from Arabic.

Felt like a fever dream with a mix of Fahrenheit 451 and 1984, which are both mentioned in the book. Liked the premise of it but felt there wasn’t enough understanding of the world for me to love it, too many loose ends/unanswered plot lines, and felt the ending needed more polish. Also, I did not like the protagonist which is always more tricky for me to really enjoy the book. Wish you would have learned more about the carpenter. I also wish people had names in the book, I don’t mind an unnamed narrator but prefer if those surrounding him are at least named. Overall, I enjoyed it but ultimately wanted more from it.
