I really enjoyed the first half but the second half lost me a bit. I found the main character a bit frustrating and some times sexist. I like the overall story and was definitely rooting for him to resist

Went off the rails (FOR ME anyway) just a bit at the very end, but I nonetheless enjoyed this and appreciated both its strong defense of literature and free expression and its insistence that reading, alone, is not enough.

Maybe something got lost in translation and in its original language the prose makes this books more bearable because this book fell flat. Talk about getting hit over the head with the point.
The premise is interesting enough. The execution left much to be desired. Every single character is so flat that you just don't care what happens to any of them. The world building is terrible. You don't know if this is a fantasy world or the real world. The ending is Lost level awful.
The book leaned too hard into the gimmick of borrowing from well known fairytales and literature to tell it's story that it didn't have a story of its own to tell beyond book censuring is bad.
Meh book. Switched from the physical book to the Audiobook and both are meh. Read 1984 instead.
