Five stars for my interest, four for delivery. I was fascinated to learn about foxes mostly in the U.K., though the author has experience working worldwide; it’s stirred in me again the desire to be working outdoors and with animals/nature. A particular awe for the world, childlike, has awoken in me again, partially through recent recommitment to exercise as relief from anxiety and this book came at the exact right time - I felt actual chills at many sections in how in tune I felt with how the author described the natural world and humans’ place in it and responsibility to it. Those who know me well know my affinity for foxes, and the book did not disappoint. It was less academic than expected, more anecdotal, but entirely sourced - it was the delivery that threw me off, but in the end I enjoyed that thoroughly as well. It was like having a conversation with a friend, listening to stories of experience. I’m suggesting to everyone to read this book, fox fanatics or no - hopefully others feel as connected with nature afterward as I do.

I enjoyed this book immensely. Adele Brand is an astute observer of the natural world and shares her scientific expertise in a way that is as much entertaining as it is enlightening.

A good overview of information on the life cycle and habits of the fox. Mostly focused on the red fox, specifically the red fox within England and the areas around London. A nice balance of informative text and advocacy for a more mutually respectful relationship between humans and foxes. I would have liked for the text to be either broader in scope (i.e. with information on a wider variety of fox species or on a broader range of habitat) or a deeper dive in to move specific information. My issues might have mostly stemmed from the audiobook format since this does tend to flatten information from the text for me, so I may need to try the ebook and see if I need to retract my issues.

I was a bit disappointed in this. I usually love books like this, but it didn't seem to have as much information as it could have, but it also managed to be a bit dry. 2.5

A charming little book about foxes. Not full of scientific detail (though it pops up), but more personal and reflective — which suited me but may not everyone else. This was lovely in audiobook format.

Very educational for a fox lover like me and managed to find a good balance between wildlife advocate and admitting to problems that exist when humans and wild animals coexist in the same space.
