I was worried when I recognized that this story had an inspiration from legally blonde that it would just be a retelling of the movie but I was pleasantly surprised to find how well it stands on its own. There are instances of familiarity to the movie but it's done in a way that doesn't feel heavy handed. Those instances feel fun to recognize, like a lovely homage from a media I love.
The world building feels well rounded with interesting stories and lore grounded in this universe. There's enough about the neighboring kingdoms, their legends, and traditions that I feel this is a full and richly thought out world. I really want even more books from this world now!
The romance. I haven't had a good, well built romance in a while; too many I have tried rush into it without the foundation of them being actual friends first. This felt earned and that it sells that they like each other for who they are first and foremost. I just melt over love stories like that.
I really enjoyed this book and can't wait to see more from this author! Thank you NetGalley and Harper Voyage for letting me read this ARC! I will definitely be buying a copy when it publishes!
Thank you NetGalley for the e-arc!
I - fhwfueoebf - my way through most of the names as in didn’t actually read them or know their correct pronunciation, it took time to get used to them and it took me 2 weeks to get through this book. It is very loosely based on Legally blonde and that was exciting on paper but in real, it was unnoticeable after the beginning. I liked the story but nothing stood out to me much and I didn’t really care about the characters, not in the way I wanted to. Also I predicted O Connor’s truth, saw it miles away. A character like him getting so much time in the book? Something was up for sure. I was even iffy about the general, my trust issues are coming in handy.
Overall good debut, fairly good time reading but nothing that would stick with me. I can’t tell if there is room for a book 2 with that ending. Not a cliffhanger per se but I feel like there is potential to develop stories for the other couples. We shall see I guess.

“I hope you realize the truth now. I’m more than a ‘pretty face’. I’m more than someone you can toss aside like nothing. I am more than you.”

The legally blond inspiration in this books is definitely there. And while that is funny for quite a bit, at some point it started bothering me a little. I think overall the story is very cute, but I did notice myself attention drifting off so now and then.
The relationship between Clía (FMC) and Roman (MMC) was one in which the pacing for me felt a bit off unfortunately. It was sweet for sure, but I didn’t really feel their chemistry unfortunately.
I did like that Clía had to work and didn’t magically become a warrior. But in the end her progress seemed a little off to me. Like I get that it was for the plot, but how can someone who just started beat life long warriors?
Also, kudos for how the author wrote Domhnall, he is a complete ass and I really don’t like him. So he was well written!
So all in all a solid book, it’s not bad but also not the best in my opinion. But definitely a fun read that might fit the upper young adult category the best.

The Princess Knight was an adorable debut novel from Cait Jacobs.
It is lighthearted and fun but is also full of kingdom politics and preparation for a large war that add a lot of depth to the story.
Clía and Ronan are absolutely adorable. I loved both characters a lot. She is a Princes, but despite her lack of warrior knowledge and her prim royal upbringing, she has such a fire in her to be better than the expectations everyone sets for her. Her drive and strength is refreshing and inspiring. Ronan isn’t the typical broody knight MMC, he is very kind and willing to help Clía. I really liked his internal monologue and learning to embrace all that he is. Their friendship is my favorite parts.
I also really love all the LGBTQIA+ representation throughout the story!
I have to say that the bones of this story are good. The plot twists were a bit predictable at times but then they took further turns that I did not expect. The last 3/4 onwards was a lot of fast paced action and I enjoyed it. However, the pacing in the middle sometimes was a bit slow and following the names of the character / places / concepts was difficult for me to follow as well.
I think fans of Powerless would like this story.

First, I think it's a crime that the publisher didn't want to call it Medievally Blonde. I think that's a way better title and less generic than "Princess Knight". I hope they reconsider naming it in the future.
Second, what a fun read! This is definitely first and foremost--a romance with some historical fantasy in the background. Ronan and Clia were fun and I liked Ronan as a love interest and protagonist. Domhnall deserves to rot though--Niamh deserves WAY better than him.
The political intrigue was fun and compelling--even though I honestly had a hard time keeping track of the names.
A fun read, and I recommend for anyone interested in a solid romance. :)

Enjoyable Read. Would recommend if you enjoy more YA fantasy and LGBTQ+ inclusivity. The main male lead also battles with pain management everyday. I did find this quite slow to begin with. There was a lot of information setting up the story. The pace did pick up towards the third act. Despite all the info dump, I was left with questions. I hope there's to be more to this adventure, where these will be addressed. Overall an enjoyable read.

“From here, you can easily bend and—” “Snap their necks?”
I adored this book! Such a great homage to Legally Blonde, and all the characters were so well-rounded and their own people. The chronic illness/disability and queer rep was surprising and really well done in my opinion. While you can definitely see the influence of the Reese Witherspoon movie, it comes across delightfully in this book and is by no means a direct retelling - just an inspiration! The only thing that would have made this a better book would be if it was just a tinsy bit longer.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ .5 stars and I can’t wait for you to read this when it comes out in October!

This story pulled me in SO fast! If Legally Blonde picked up a sword and wandered into a fantasy world, it would come out looking something like The Princess Knight. Our FMC is quirky, determined, and the beating heart of the story.
The names are hard to pronounce (a better pronunciation guide would have helped!) and the setup of the story felt familiar, but I don’t consider that to be a bad thing. The predictably useless prince and his grumpy best friend hit their marks, though it was clear who the love interest was from the start.
I mostly appreciated how this world treats queerness as a given, and that the love interest has a chronic injury… I think it added a depth to the story without detailing the overall tone. The original sparkle to the story wore off around the second half, but that shift mirrored our FMC’s growing awareness of war, responsibility, and what it means to love and lose.
I found the writing to be solid, the pace was fast, and the overall vibe was just FUN. I tore through this in under 24 hours. If you’re in the mood for a lighthearted fantasy that blends a little humor in with heart, and a touch of academy training vibes, consider this one!
Thank you to NetGalley and HarperCollins for the fun ARC!
