It was a good easy read, i wished there would be more though as I usually do with these types of books. It was a very good retelling of beauty and the beast, and I enjoyed their romance and the disability representation. Overall good read.

I found the text to be overly wordy and flowery, which made it tough to get through. The plot was also very reminiscent to "The Duchess Deal" by Tessa Dare, though this book was less polished and the plot was much slower.

5 stars!

This book was such a lovely journey for me! I was looking for a romance with a refreshing take on beauty and the beast and THIS BOOK DID NOT DISSAPOINT!

Before I start, I want to mention how great is the disability repr in this book!(In my opinion, as a fully-abbled person...so, I hope I'm right about this one >..>). We don't have some magical healing, or a miraculous reason why the hero/heroine are completely fine by the end of the book, nor do we forget we follow the perspective of a person with this situation!

Kitty Danvers is in a desperate situation and decides that she needs a way to save her family from poverty NOW!..So, she names herself engaged to a duke..a reclusive one, of course...and It's not like this trope is new, or the type of person put in these kind of situations is overly different, but Stacy Reid managed to convince me that Kitty could actually pull this off. The care and detail in Kitty's scheme is really nice and well thought off! She takes measures not only to spread knowledge but withold information to gain advantage! And the way she's built as a character...allows her to be smart about every situation!
From this praise I just gave, rest assured Stacy knows how to write both authentic characters that will not lose their defined "personality" or "cleverness" midway through the novel AND she knows how to write a well constructed overly compelling plot! ^^

So... we enstablished Kitty as smart, cautious person with a will of iron. Now, for the hero and the other part of the retelling...we have the Duke of Thorton, Alexander Masters..who's been missing from London's society for years!
As you can guess already, he's a scarred and deeply hurt fellow...>...>...but don't roll your eyes! You will for sure appreciate how well written he is. From his accident repercussions (no spoiler here!!!>...<) to the way in which he interacts with Kitty....he's a loner with an iron backbone! A strong silent type that gives you all the nice reasons to want to read such a protagonist!

If I have to point out one major plus for this book, the characterisation stand out by far.

The next thing I will address is not a flaw, or a deal-breaker for many, many people,... but for someone like me who doesn't necessary want a family(by that I mean children) , it can be bothersome to read about such an inner conflict. Again, it's not horrible or in your face that YOU should want this, or that EVERY WOMAN should, but yeah...I noticed it and it gave me a strange feeling...(a feeling I got remided of at the end of the book...I wished for their happiness to mean something else, I quess...)

Otherwise, the MCs felt justified to feel all the emotions and have all the insecurities in their journey to happily ever-after.
Once again, I'm more than glad there is no full recovery based on love or other nonsense; I'm also very happy to say the atmosphere is ON POINT...YEARNING ALL THE WAY!!!! -> so, a beautiful slow-burn is gently nurished throughout the story!

Setting: I believe that for each location we got our characters in, the author did a really fine job with both the description and the tone needed for the situation..so, if it was nature or a place with a lot of nature around it...we got a feeling of cloudy/rainy day with lots of wind; if it was a saloon or some house...we got grand walls with lots of people or the sensation of it -> contrast enstablished! nature = freedom and contemplation, peace and introspection; while indoors = tension, crowds, action.
Interesting titbit I noticed...>..>

In conclusion, I will recommend this book to all romance lovers and people that want to try this genre, due to the high quality of it and the beautiful slow-burn relationship mixt with real tricky emotions one has to work through in order to get a peace of happiness when life itself and the card she dealt you with seems to say "this is not for you"! I hope I intrigued you into giving it a shot!

Enjoy
