The audiobook narrator gets one star for saying the chapter numbers like she's Gossip Girl. Save your inflection for real action, lady.

“I would lay the world at your feet if I could, Katherine.”
“I do not need the whole world. Just a little bit of you, Alexander,”
The angst in this one was so good — the disability rep was written well but the pacing of this book was what stopped it from being really good.
Graphic: Infertility, Fire/Fire injury, and Ableism
Moderate: Sexual content

This was my second attempt at reading this book and I’ll be honest, 3 stars feels generous 😬
I’ve read other historicals with a similar plot/trope that were done so much better in my opinion. People always, always recommend this book as being one of the absolute best scarred hero romances and I quite frankly don’t see it. I mean, yeah he’s significantly scarred. I guess they’re right about that but I just didn’t think the story was good here.
I think my issue is that it’s so damn slow and I didn’t really feel much of anything between them. Even their first meeting there was no feeling of underlying tension or any sort of initial sparks.
I wanted to love this, and sadly it fell super flat.

Quick Summary: A physically challenged beast and a wallflower beauty romance
My Review: My Darling Duke by Stacy Reid is part 1 of the Sinful Wallflowers series.
About the Book: After her father's death, Katherine (Kitty) Danvers takes it upon herself to hatch a plan for marriage. She proclaims herself to be engaged to the Duke of Thornton. The trouble is that the duke is unaware of the betrothal. Once he learns of it, however, he decides to leave his life of isolation and return to society in order to meet his mysterious and ingenious bride to be. Once they meet, attraction, friendship, and love bloom.
My Final Say: This story was so good! I absolutely loved it. The relationship that Kitty and Alexander had was beautiful.
