It’s a historical romance, ofc I loved it.

This book was all right, but also a bit odd. I didn’t hate it, but I also didn’t love it. It had some issues in plausibility. The story and writing was a bit uneven and lacked in flow. I thought the characters could have been developed better.

I don’t even know what to say about this one. I didn’t love either of the main characters and by the time I got to the end I felt like… “Meh. So that book happened.”

Not high on my recommend list, but not the worst thing I’ve ever read.

I really enjoyed the first 75% and thought the 3rd act conflict was going to be annoying and frustrating but I was wrong. I enjoyed the way the story wrapped up. I wish there was an epilogue to show us a bit of the next book and how the side characters are living but oh well.

This book needed major content warnings. MMC suffers from alcoholism and PTSD, and is a survivor of familial suicide. It’s heavy and triggering.

The story is a bit all over the place and the villain just felt way too simple. Half of the bargain made between the two MCs became lost in the dust to a certain degree, and it wouldn’t have been hard to show more of the struggle there.

We got little bits and pieces of the FMCs friends/peers but not enough to make any sense?

Mary Jane Wells is the only redeeming factor in this for me; her performance was impeccable.

Ms. Lowell wove a suspenseful and exciting story which sent me down many rabbit holes as we explored the Artist community in London in the late 1800's and the gender bias. She choose to have a female artist accidentally finding her muse out cold, naked in an alley on her way to art class. All while trying to get the right for female students to draw live models a la natural.

dnf--just didn't like the characters. Other people's mileage may vary of course.
