I very nearly quit in the middle, but I didn't, so I guess it was fine. It just wasn't that interesting.

I received an ARC of this book from a Goodreads giveaway. I loved it so much! Once I got started, I wanted to binge it. It made me laugh out loud several times, like any good romcom should.

The way the author wrote the dialogue in this book made it hard to follow at times, especially in scenes with multiple people with the same pronouns. Otherwise, I liked the complications of this story, it wasn’t just a cut and dry Victorian romance novel.

Often I don't read blurbs, here I read the blurb I did. Yet the story was not quite what the blurb promised. I was confused about the entire middle portion of the book. Was he unable to be with her because of his title? Because of Yardley holding the reins? Because he didn't want to marry? Not that they discussed it. Their communication was weak af and the reasons were not even communicated to the reader.

It had a solid idea just not enough communication.

Heartwarming

I loved this book. Both of the main characters have boatloads of angst and the story works through it with a deft hand. The love story is beautifully done and the romance scenes are quite spicy. All of the characters are well fleshed out and likable.

*UPCOMING RELEASE FEATURE*

I'm not going to lie, the gorgeous cover of this book drew me in immediately more than anything. This ended up being a melting pot of romance, witty banter, and important issues all rolled into one.

I wasn't the biggest fan of Anthony to start off with which was my only struggle. However, Lucy's charisma and gumption kept me turning the pages and I am so glad.

The author did a fabulous job of jumping right in with a unique yet hilarious meet-cute. The synopsis reads differently than what actually transpires. As much as this is a formulaic romance, there are issues of suicide, PTSD, and classism that are important and very relevant.

This reads very quickly, has a healthy dose of steam, and is the perfect beach read and/or escape for the moment. I foreshadow this being in a lot of vacation bags this summer.

Thank you to NetGalley and Berkley Publishing Group for this advanced reader copy. Be sure to pre-order your copy to be released on April 6th, 2021!
