Wonderful, unique world-building with a gruesome magic system. My library loan expired in the middle of listening to the audiobook, and I had to wait months for it to be available again, but was able to get right back into it and enjoyed the ending.

This was a fascinating start to a series. I absolutely loved the pseudo asian culture, the floating islands, and the unique magic system. It all made for something truly special, something truly different from all the other horse and sword fantasy out there, and I’ll definitely be continuing. I mean, I’ve already bought the books so I may as well read them lol.
On the shifting POV’s: I like getting a story from multiple perspectives and I really liked the Jovis part of the story line. However… having multiple first person POV’s and interspersing them with multiple third person was a bit awkward at best. So glad I wasn’t listening to this one as an audiobook.
On the book itself: Spelling and grammar mistakes?? Who the f%@k edited this?? Shame on you Orbit, you are better than this. Grumble grumble grumble…

A little slow in the beginning, but once you hit 25% or so, this story takes off. I loved the characters, I loved the story, and the ending was so surprising. 10/10 will recommend.

I had a tough start with this one as the first several chapters are introducing the separate characters/storyline. Suddenly, I found myself nearly halfway through the book and then it soon became a book I couldn’t set down.
