Starting my re-read of the HP series, and wow I forgot how good the first one is. Absolutely flew through it. Just a ton of fun, JK Rowling's writing is undeniably awesome even if she's a shitty person. The first entry in my favorite series of all time, so glad I decided to re-read. My one small flaw is that I was surprised at how quick Rowling covered the adventure from Fluffy to the mirror, I thought there would be significant content for each obstacle but that wasn't really the case. That's the most fun part so kinda wish there was a little more in that area.
Some events I want to note that aren't in the movies:
- the 7 bottle logic puzzle to get to the stone
- the second troll that Quirrell had already KO'd
- Peeves
- the 3 sneaking up to the astronomy tower and forgetting the cloak
- Ronan and Bane

I think this is actually the very first time I am pleased with the movie adaptation of a book!
Reading this felt like seeing the first Harry Potter movie come to life before my eyes again, with some additional details and scenes that were quite pleasant to read about as well.

I’m not gonna rate these as I have seen the films so the plot twists and whatever are lost on me as I know what’s gonna happen is going to happen already.
These are really good though, and do differ from the films slightly

((support trans people, one possible organization to support here: https://www.twocc.us/ ))
deciding to read this series as a whole for the first time had me conflicted. the entire franchise was a huge part of growing up for me, and i do not agree with the authors awful hate speech. each review i will link a possible organization to support that helps trans individuals.
this book was clearly destined to be a hit for midgrade readers. the pacing is fast and the number of things that happens is amazing. even the world building, which there is a LOT of, is accessible.
that said, it does feel a but forced and the character development lacks because of the over-emphasis on plot. of course, children do not care about this. as an adult reader, dont expect this to be the trio of friends you have grown to understand and love. harry and ron are actually quite mean and terrible to others in this one.
overall, read it with a pinch of salt and recognize that we should support TERFs as little as possible to extinguish their platforms
