As always such a fun and intriguing read.

I might read tons of historical mysterys but there's something in Dianne's  writing that just make it feel like you're in the scene of the crime, can't wait to the next book

Having said that, I did miss more of the domestic side that shows us more of George and Frances relationship, but the bits we had were so cute that I can let if slide, but I do hope we have more of them in the future

In case it’s not abundantly obvious, I didn’t feel very good this week. And these are the epitome of comfort food

Not as good as the other books in the series for a couple reasons. First, there was very little attention to Frances’ and George’s characters and relationship. The teeny little interpersonal “issue” was very minor and dumb, and took up all of about 10 pages throughout the book. Second, the mystery was too obvious throughout the book and wasn’t really discovered through clues but stumbled upon by accident. The red herring was so obviously not the murderer that every time Frances considered her as a suspect it felt forced and unnatural. It didn’t feel like we were actually solving anything, just waiting for the horrible people to reveal themselves through their own stupidity… which they did. And finally, the incorrect use of titles drove me absolutely bonkers in this book. Viscount Winstead is NEVER Lord Firstname! He always Lord Winstead. I realize that would be a little confusing in this story where the late Lord Winstead is a victim and the current Lord Winstead is a suspect, but there are a dozen correct ways to distinguish between them (e.g. how I just did!) I had been wondering about Lady Esther’s title for several books - I assumed there must be a different Baron than her husband since she is using her courtesy title from her father, but now I’m assuming this title is wrong as well. The daughter of an Earl or higher only retains her courtesy title of Lady Firstname if she marries a non-peer (i.e. a baronet or lower). If Esther’s husband is indeed the current Baron then her title is Lady Titlename (I forget what the barony is called).

Not the most memorable of the series, and it dragged a bit.
