Goofy little academic who learns to love and care about people while also falling for her obnoxiously handsome companion? How could I rate it anything other than 5 stars?

I’m struggling on what to rate this book. I think 2.5 feels good. It had its redeeming parts that were fun, but I just felt so bored most of the time once we hit the halfway mark - either bored or confused. In the beginning, it reminded me of almost a grown up Spiderwick Chronicles, but it just felt like it droned on a lot.

I came really close to DNFing, but at that point I was so close to the end I wanted to stick it out. I kind of wish I’d chosen to DNF.

I can definitely see where you’d love this book if you really like faeries and are looking for a short, cozy book, but it wasn’t my cup of tea.

Wendell and Emily have stolen my heart!! Also, as someone who dabbled in academia (and studied Irish folklore), Emily's little asides and footnotes gave me LIFE.

Fun story, it was interesting to learn about the different types of fairies and there was a good variety of characters/personalities. I can’t deal with the name Bambleby though

They had me in the first half, not gonna lie. It was fun thinking about this with Sarah Connelly and David Bowie as the main characters, but that's about it. I was hype for the book in rhe first third, then was skimming by the end. Golden ravens? Barely even know them. Maybe a 2-2.5, I'm feeling generous lol

I loved this cozy little fairy tale/love story/research journal so much that as soon as I finished the sequel, I went back and reread this one. It's so much fun to find all the little social cues Emily misses, and to piece together all the academic drama in the footnotes.
