Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm

I... don't know. I truly don't know.

Run is a story of a car accident in Boston that brings together the fates of a group of strangers (or are they?). The vast majority of the book takes place in a 24 hour period. It centers around the Doyle family - Doyle and his three sons, Sullivan, Tip and Teddy.

I guess: the good things were, the characters were interesting (but lacking depth), and I never found it painful or boring to continue the story.

The bad things were, this story feels like it has so much stuff that is inconceivable, unbelievable, and perhaps dated that the word that comes to mind when I want to describe this book is "cringe."

Part of the problem with this book was that race plays a substantial role in this story and I don't think it was handled all that well.

I just don't know. It had its moments. It had its strange moments. The ending was something. Do I regret reading it? No. Do I recommend reading it? No.

Received as one of the author's choice books in a Quarterly book box.

I've read at least one of Ann Patchett's books before. Bel Canto, maybe? I wasn't overly impressed with Run. I found it hard to suspend my disbelief enough to get into the story. I don't think it would have been nearly as easy for the boys to have been assimilated into a white household in the 1970's. And the ending was way too abrupt.

Ann Patchett completely pulled me into this 24 hour time span novel. It’s a book about adoption, race, belonging, and family.
