Such a beautiful story!

Not knowing much about the occupation of France, this made me want to read more. It was a beautiful story, though I found myself much more interested in what Elaine had gone through than reading Abby’s snippets of comparison to her abusive marriage.
emotional hopeful inspiring

Flipping between two (very tenuously) linked arcs, The Beekeepers Promise tells the stories of Abi, the modern day character, and Eliane who lives in rural France during the German occupation. Unfortunately the modern day story, for me, added nothing to the book and detracted from the historical narrative. I was hoping for something akin to The Nightingale or All The Light We Cannot See but it is a much lighter version possibly because Abi’s lacklustre tale is woven in alongside and hugely detracts from and is jarring of the better story. I’m surprised that this book is so highly rated but perhaps I mis-sold it to myself.

Brilliant book. I was fascinated by the stories of war time France and always keen to see what was happening in Abi’s world too. Really enjoyed this.

An interesting storyline, and a well written tale. It was rather uneven between the two narratives though, meaning you got far more attached to one character than another which was a shame as both, I feel, were interesting.

Such a lovely story and the perfect mix of war time reality and love of all kinds. A great distraction from the heaviness of the real world and I loved the double timelines and multiple characters that I fell in love with. Will definitely be reading more of this author.

I loved this book. I am not always a fan of shifting eras but it was well done in this case. I need to look for more audio books by this author.
