I was expecting more or less a standard romantic comedy. This book, however, manages to duck a number of the cliches that usually go alone with this genre. Well played says I.
I absolutely loved this book!! I especially loved how Smith made sure when you were finished it was on a happy note-Graham and Ellie are together, she's going to the Harvard program, Quinn isn't mad at her, her mom is okay with all the news articles. I really loved how we were able to have both perspectives-Graham and Ellie. It was really nice because you were able to see what Graham was feeling like when he went on the date with Quinn thinking it is Ellie, you wouldn't have gotten that from Ellie's perspective. I feel like this book had also a great plot where even the ordinary girl in the situation actually isn't all that ordinary and has a very news worthy background. Something else I found nice was that Graham had a regular lifestyle when he was growing up and he is able to realize how fame had a affected him like when he went to his parents house or when Ellie said she only needed to get a thousand dollars more. I also loved how Smith included the prologue in the beginning of the book in email format because you were able to see the first messages sent between them. I kind of wished that Graham and Ellie hadn't gone those three weeks without talking because that gave them barely any time together, I feel like three weeks went by in the story without us knowing anything. Besides that, this was an AMAZING book and I am recommending it to all my friends because it's such a cute love story! Jennifer E. Smith did a great job!!
Very sweet book :) I love Jennifer E. Smith's writing and how she portrays her teenage characters. They're very real and it's refreshing after reading so many YA books with tragic characters and an obnoxious amount of drama.
This book reminded me of Meg Cabot's "Teen Idol" but it definitely stood out with Jennifer's unique characters and a relatable love story, despite the "occupation" of one of the main characters :) Overall, a great book!

I wanted to be blown away by this book, but unfortunately I wasn’t. Don’t get me wrong, This Is What Happy Looks Like, is a decent enough read, but it’s not spectacular. It’s a lot lighter than The Statistical Probability… but this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. I just think I connected more with Jennifer’s debut novel.
I thought the book was set in a beautiful place that I could imagine really well. The descriptions of it, were brilliant. I pictured such a lovely, quaint town where everyone knew everyone… (don’t we all know places like that?)
The characters in this book are cute. Ellie is easy to relate to, although she does come across as quite boring, she’s likeable enough. I think the stand out character of this book is Graham. He may be a movie star, but he hasn’t been sucked into the limelight. He actually shies away from it. He’s still level-headed, down to earth and completely normal. I thought he was a perfect love interest. The relationship between Ellie and Graham was sweet, but I would’ve loved to have read more emails between them. I really liked those sections of the books. They were modern, fresh and easy to read.
Although I wasn’t blown away, I think that many people will enjoy this cute, romantic read. I think my younger self would’ve devoured it!

Am I the only one who needs another ending? It was a beautiful book, but I wanted more. I wanted to see what happened after Graham left.
This novel isn't bad, but it isn't good either. Great concept, but it just failed to deliver. Very cliche, quite dull, I skim-read a lot. The characters, however, despite being boring we're kind of okay. I liked Ellie, even if she kept making the wrong decisions.
G sends an e-mail to the wrong person, Ellie, who responds because, well, she does. Suddenly there's a long-distance relationship growing over the next few months - and then things get interesting. Turns out that G is Graham Larkin a major teen movie star and his growing friendship with E leads him to suggest that the movie he's shooting be filmed in her small town in Maine. Once there, he looks for his friend, only she's not interested in a relationship with a movie star because of her past.
This is a relatively slight book, with nothing that really stands out except for the way in which it begins. The e-mail exchange is sweet and I wish we'd seen more of it, less of the in-Maine action; it's that exchange that makes this different from other teen romances. Having said that, this is perfect for readers of Sarah Dessen or Stephanie Perkins.

That's it? I love this book! What's with the ending, though? But I want to believe that they ended up together, I strongly believe that they did.
