Nonetheless it wasn‘t that bad. I just hate it when I‘m forced into reading something I don‘t want to. And I love reading, but only when I‘m able to choose my books.

es war sehr verwunschen und poetisch geschrieben, konnte mir aber nicht wirklich eine tiefe vermitteln. ich glaube, ich muss die geschichte ein wenig nachwirken lassen, bis ich wirklich ein urteil fällen kann.

It's a coming of age novel, really, and the main character is gay. But his sexuality isn't the main focus of the book, and that normalises homosexuality. One can be gay and not have ot be the main focus of their life. When I read this book, I was having the customary sexuality crisis. This book played a major part in helping me accepting my own nature.
The writing is beautiful. Steinhöfel is a master with words. The prose seems more like poetry, and it repeatedly whisks you away. This novel easily entrances you, takes you away to some magical area of Germany, and makes you feel everything that Phil, Diana, Glass feels. There's the main story, and then there is intervals when moments when Phil recounts past experiences -- all very profound happenings that shaped him into who he is today.
This is most definitely a read that I recommend.
I can only hope that the sequel of sorts is translated into English soon.
