I struggled to get going with this one, as I found the main character's point of view very, very boring. I realise he's supposed to be a boring character (a "shithouse" as all the other characters keep calling him) but it was very difficult to enjoy his mundane listing of activities, clothing, etc in the very early chapters. Once the plot kicked into gear (about 10 chapters in) I did find myself caring about all the characters, and I being engaged in the mystery, but I don't think I'd reach for it again for a re-read.

A quirky, funny, sad, quite violent book, about friendship, relationships; Police Corruption and love. So worth the read, especially if you read it in Bob Mortimer's voice. I hear the audio book is well worth it.

I enjoyed reading this book. The main character came alive from the pages, I really felt like I knew him. I found the ending predictable and the writing was a bit repetitive and shouty. The beginning was definitely better than the end.
