The Kaiju Preservation Society by John Scalzi is a fun ride. It takes place at the start of the pandemic. Jamie has been fired from his tech job and is working as a food delivery driver when he runs into an old friend, Tom. Tom offers Jamie an opportunity with an “animal rights organization” during their next field visit. What Jamie doesn’t know is that this job takes him to an alternate dimension where Godzilla-like animals called Kaiju roam the planet. They are tasked with keeping the Kaiju safe and from crossing over to our Earth, where they essentially become nuclear bombs. This story is sarcastic and funny and kept me entertained. I enjoyed Jamie and his brand of humor while he gets to know this world. I listened to the audiobook, which is narrated by Wil Wheaton, who made the experience even more fun. 3/5 stars.

It's not opera; it's a pop song, and it's good darn fun.
