- Plot- or character-driven? A mix
- Strong character development? It's complicated
- Loveable characters? Yes
- Diverse cast of characters? It's complicated

definitely the best of the stranger things books.
it has it own independent plot from the show and feels like a mystery/crime/thriller that just happened to have hopper in it.
also, cultish things adjacent to stranger things adjacent to 70s cop vibes is my shit apparently.
(objectively would say 3 but some points up just because i was impressed and having a fun time)

I enjoyed reading about Hopper's backstory, and it's a really solid mystery by itself too. At some points it did feel like he was presented as over-competent when other characters in the scene could've led and female characters felt a bit damsel-in-distress at points, but in general it was a fun read!
