I love how creative Cixin Liu is with his concepts, imagined technology, and of course various ways of ending the world. There were also a variety of “morals” across the different stories, some more thinly veiled than others. Unfortunately it loses some stars for not only lack of female representation (not passing the Bechdel test here), but one story (Curse 5.0) was misogynistic enough that I almost put the book down.
A bit of a lacklustre ending, but overall an enjoyable journey in exposition
Bizarrely original. Earth comes in for a pounding. Other science fiction thinks about leaving Earth; Liu Cixin thinks about taking it with us, taking it apart, burrowing deep inside. A bit too much obsession with intelligent dinosaurs for my taste.
Do not expect deep character development but do expect epic and imaginative hard sci-fi. Enjoyed this a lot.
Äußerst intelligente Kurzgeschichten. Aufgefallen ist mir allerdings die doch meist recht ähnliche Grundidee: Aliens kommen uns besuchen und alles wird anders (meistens schlechter).
The Wandering Earth turns the planet earth into a giant spaceship to escape our galaxy before the sun explodes.
The Mountain concerns aliens dropping by for a brief visit with humankind.
Son of China causes a second sun to be built and what goes into maintaining it.
For the Benefit of Mankind a story about an assassins and his marks.
Curse 5.0 follows the birth and increasing violence of a computer virus.
The Micro-Era shows a different way of surviving when the sun goes supernova and then reduces in size.
Devourer is about a race that anhialates every planet in it's path and what happens when they get to Earth.
Taking Care of God what happens when 2 billion "Gods" returns to Earth and all they want is to be taken care of in their old age.
With her eyes follows a young man as he takes a women's "eyes" with him on a vacation.
Cannonball is about what happens when you accidentally invent a substance so heavy it sinks through the earth.
I honestly didn't expect to enjoy this as much as I did but everyone of these stories took a turn I didn't entirely expect and some of them even interconnect, I'm excited to try this author's novels now.

I quite enjoyed a few of the short stories in this collection. Most memorable ones where the wandering earth, devourer, taking care of god and mountain. Imaginative and thought provoking with a strong hint of Chinese philosophy and culture.
Some pretty interesting short stories in this collection. You can kind of see some of the larval-aspects of Three Body emerging. Highly recommended for Liu Cixin fans, moderately recommended for others.
I enjoyed this short story collection as ot was deeply imaginative, almost whimsical, and told more of the kinds of stories I'd like to see in thr sci-fi genre.
Mixed bag of short stories, some gems among some rather more forgettable tales..
