Ever in search of the next JK Rowling, I decided to read Christopher Paolini's Eragon. Alas, Paolini falls far short of the brilliance of Rowling.
I don't want to write a review that is completely negative, so I will simply say that when I learned that this novel was written when Paolini was a teenager, I was not surprised.

Even though it's high fantasy, I never really had much interest in this series. However, this summer I met Paolini (my daughter is a huge fan) and I was so smitten by how engaging he was with my kiddo, I felt a desire to read the series. He ranks in the top five of authors I've ever met, and I have the biggest nerd crush.
Overall, I think it has potential. Often times, it felt slow paced/uneventful, only to be followed by massive amounts of information overload/action. I admire the relationship between Eragon and Saphira. I look forward to the book 2.

It took me a while to finished, but I really loved the details Christopher used. I felt like I was reading a cross-over between Star Wars and The Lord of the Ring.

Same great book but the added bonus of some truly amazing illustrations. I loved this series 20 years ago when I first read it and I continue to enjoy reading the world of Eragon. I really hope we get illustrated versions of all the books.

This is a classic for me. Loved this book as a teenager, and I loved rereading it now. Great characters, appealing world, adventure. Definitely worth getting made fun of at your wedding for it.
Age range: 13+
It’s a little long, but nothing about it is too serious for younger readers.

Definetly one of my favorite books of all time. The characters were amazing, the villans were terrifying, and the plot was well thought out!
