Just couldn't get into it. Loved the premise, just really hard to follow story. It could be me, everyone else seems to love it. Hard for me to keep track of characters, therefore hard to develop feelings for them. I may have enjoyed it more if I had read the "author's debriefing" first. I appreciate the work that went into it.

This story is quite different from the books I have read this year. Based during WWII, this is a story of friendship mixed in with a lot of historical info from a female perspective. The story, at times, got a little boring for me but I am glad I stuck with it because toward the end of the story is really when it all comes together and takes meaning. Made me shed a few tears. Twice! The two main characters will stay with me for a very long time. Their friendship reminds me of some of my past ones... “It's like being in love, discovering your best friend.”

Difficult subject matter told in a very compelling manner! I've read a surfeit of "Women and World War II" novels, but I'm really happy that I relented and read one more.

This book received rave reviews and I wanted to like it more than I did... The story is told in two parts, part one from "Queenie's" (a young woman of many names) point of view while she is imprisoned in a Nazi holding cell, and part two from Maddie's point of view in the French country side.

"Queenie's" story was a laborious read, and I figured the underlined portions would mean something eventually... Her story was told mostly as a novel (that she wrote), and I didn't find the voice to be genuine. Maddie's story was more straight forward (for reasons you'll understand while you're reading) and expressive in her love and concern for her dear friend.

It's hard to write this review without spoilers, and I don't want to give anything away to those that will enjoy this book. It wasn't a horrible book, and I did enjoy the friendship between the two young women as well as their strong character and breaking into roles that men usually carried, it just wasn't a story for me.

This book is supposedly a young adult book. I think it's a bit too intense for some younger folks, but wow. What a BOOK! It was funny and sad and hilarious and nerve racking. What a rollercoaster ride! Definitely recommend if you're interested in WWII.

WW2 tale of 2 British girls helping the war effort, one is a pilot the other a spy, undercover as a wireless operator; they get stuck in France and help the resistance effort. Each girl writes half the story since they both think the other is dead.

I'm finished with this book only because I could not make it through. Characters are lame and the story is B.o.r.i.n.g. I'm surprised that this received a kirkus star.

Words cannot explain the power of this book. I fell in love with the characters: strong, capable, determined girls, who are smart and full of hope and love and talent. It's got a perfect ending - so sad, but so perfect. Read this, enjoy this, love this.
