I adored this book. I didn't think it would be better than The Roommate, maybe on par, especially as I'd been told it was a lot lighter on the steamy scenes. The thing is... that was the best part about it. I just LOVED Naomi and Ethan and I think I appreciated that the book focuses on intimacy as an important part of the relationship that doesn't necessarily involve sex. Naomi's character is actually very adamant in this book that not all relationships even require sex, and that's perfectly fine and normal. The concept coming from a sex worker is just so out of left field, but it's perfect. The only reason really that I have knocked a star off is because I would have liked them to explore more of that intimacy themselves rather than just keeping the distance within the slow burn. I love these characters so much and Ethan is just way too precious for his own good.

I love Rosie Danan's work. While her stories are always spicy and insanely intimate, she manages to surprise you with complex themes. Come for the sex, stay for the philosophy.

I'm glad we got to revisit characters from the first novel in the series but loved the very different tone of this story. It had complex discussions of faith and self love.

The characters were surprisingly complex and flawed for a romance novel and I just love how there is so much slow burn tension built in what is actually a fast paced novel.

There were a few parts that the dialogue slipped and felt choppy, or characters had sudden/confusing responses.

The Intimacy Experiment is a great sequel to The Roommate, I personally enjoyed this story more! You can definitely read this book as a stand-alone but I do think it is enhanced by reading The Roommate first. Naomi is a strong character who knows herself and what she wants while also learning that being vulnerable and relying on others does not make her weak. Rabbi Ethan Cohen is a cinnamon roll of a man who is sweet, sturdy, and just what’s to love and support his community. These two make a wonderful pair while providing representation of the sex work/education field as well as Judaism.
