Enjoyed the story and the premise, but the plot holes and the lack of explanation to some story threads bought the review down

Reading this I was really enjoying it but then that ending was so quick it was whiplash, leaving me with quite a lot of questions. Also I was quite confused as I’ve seen this recommended as a fantastic stand alone, yet as I read the last page it says to be continued and then I hear it’s now a duology so be prepared for that I guess 😅 cannot complain as I do want to see more of these characters, just the ending was a bit fast and confusing.
Love the poetic writing style from this author, definitely some beautiful things to quote from this book. Nice to read a different take on faeries from what I’ve previously read. Loved the build up between the main characters, who doesn’t like a dark academia setting and professor and student trope. This is fantasy with low spice so if you’re heavily into romance the spice maybe a little disappointing
Quite conflicting as the reading experience I loved until the end. Then reflecting on the plot.. for me it would feel quite clumsy trying to explain bits to others, as some things I just don’t know/understand myself (plot holes) which is why it’s not a 4 or 5 star for me personally.
