I can see why someone would like this book, but not me. I also am not the most qualified critic for this genre, so I don't have a lot to say other than that it just didn't have anything special. It certainly wouldn't be a book that lingers.

It is a simultaneous friends to lovers and enemies to lovers trope, if that intrigues you.

I didn't feel the depth and complexity of world and characters that'd I'd hoped for in this book.

ok but the way corrick said "my love" will forever ruin me

Don’t love the writing style at times and a few silly resolutions to certain plot points. Liked the romance and addicting to read. But what I loved most was the discussion brought up regarding disparities in healthcare and access to medicine between the rich and the poor, and the duty to challenge and change that system. Crazy book to coincidentally be reading in the midst of the ceo killing.

This is everything I want in a YA fantasy. There were high stakes and a lot of politics driving the plot forward. The main characters were so multi-faceted and we kept learning more and more about them as the story went on. I really enjoyed reading from the points of view of Corrick and Tessa because we got to see so much of their thoughts and how they were so conflicted with their actions.

tessa cade? love her.

king harristan and prince corrick? deserved better.
