This book made me dislike Howard Zinn as a human being.
I thought it was pretty good. If you go into it understanding that it is a very biased account of American history, it makes the weird little quirks of word choices and anecdotes easier to deal with. Obviously, the history we're taught in school is a white man's history so it's good to get the scoop on what things were like for the majority of the population that owned little and didn't declare wars. Like I said, there are a few little things in the book I didn't much care for, such as:
Over-use of anecdotal evidence
More than once Zinn used a quotation from a child to make a point (Ruthkanda forever)
In the last chapter, he implies we should bring back some form of child labor
And probably other things I'm forgetting
But other than that I quite enjoyed it. I'm not a big history/foreign policy guy, but if I'm gonna read any left-wing account of history, I'd be happy to read this one again.

This was one of the longest books that I have ever read, but the outrage was well worth the time.
I will update this space when I’ve had time to process.

LOT has happened in the 2 months (!!!) since I started this book, both in the world and in my personal life. It’ll feel like saying goodbye to a friend…
…but not a best friend. More like one of those guys you knew in high school who you got along with perfectly well but never had much of a personal relationship with, and you couldn’t figure out why you never really clicked.
I’m glad I bought this book so I can keep it around to reference when I want to recall specifics. It’s probably a good sign that very few of the broad points felt new to me, but I didn’t need 700 pages to tell me “American government policy serves the interests of capital”.
