Wasn't really offering any new insights, and I was getting bored. Im sure it was ground breaking at the time, but a lot of this book has been written elsewhere more recently.

Honestly, I think this is another book I simply experienced too late—I felt like I didn't learn much that I didn't already know (although what I DID learn was very interesting), and the writing style didn't grip me. I'd give it another go though—always good to have a refresher on how folks have stood up to tyranny and exploitation in the past.

Just to clarify, I HIGHLY recommend this book. It’s a fantastic telling of our country’s history through a lens that doesn’t get used very much. The reason I only score it three stars is because after WWII, the author just starts complaining nonstop about the lack of distance between the modern two political parties. I don’t disagree with his critiques but he makes the same argument ad nauseam for the last 1/3 (approximately 8 hours) of the book and I wish he had focused on other aspects of that time period.

Very interesting and informative but also slow and dry. Difficult to get into.
