hearing from women of colour what it was like to grow up in their respective environments made me depressed as hell but far less alone, it’s beautifully done and makes a hard pill to swallow feel slightly more manageable

"Society has ridiculously unrealistic expectations of what women's bodies should be like," and this goes beyond body shape and size, but also crosses the lines of sexuality, disability and religion et cetera.

An anthology written by people colour discussing the politicisation of their individual and shared identities; how there is no one way to be someone, to believe in yourself and to love and appreciate your culture, inspiring messages about unlearning our own prejudices and internalised misogyny or racism. Letters to their younger selves.

"You have a voice, and justice and freedom are too important to leave in the hands of people who do not listen to you."
