4.5⭐️ I freaking loved this book! An amazing little mermaid retelling that takes place on a magical pirate ship. Full of magic, mythical sea creatures, feminine rage (in the form of eating men’s hearts) and an awesome love story. This book was so much fun!
DNF. This book alternates between reading as poorly executed fanfiction of The Little Mermaid and Pirates of the Caribbean and a compelling narrative I was curious to see the end of. I really enjoyed Marin but Ramsey I found largely insufferable. I tried but I just couldn't do it. This book (and maybe dark fantasy in general is not for me). The enemies to lovers plot line was extremely tangled together resulting in a narrative where they were sleeping together but treating each other poorly. I almost stopped after he killed her sister and then they immediately had sex but instead I stuck around to hear how he's a vampire??? This book has many conflicting themes and while written well enough to get me half way through, the plot and clashing of wills made it so I will not finish reading. The hypocrisy Ramsey shows in saying he cares for her and wants to protect her and yet repeatedly being as abusive if not more so than her ex husband or loving that she's a wild strong creature and yet demanding she submit to him and trust him at every turn despite proving to be untrustworthy over and over was the final nail in the coffin. I really wanted to like this book but I did not.

THIS BOOK, I legit have no words. I never realized I needed a dark retelling of the Little Mermaid meets Pirates of the Caribbean until now & it was everything. This book was dark, it was hot, it kept me at the edge of my seat. I loved every minute of reading it and I wish I could re-read it for the first time again, that’s how much I loved it.
Maren is a total baddie, but give me the morally grey pirate captain any day

A dark little mermaid retelling mixed with Pirates of the Carribean? Say no more!
This was amazing, I loved everything about this. The rawness, the brutalness, the heartbreak.
It was exciting and I was never bored. It was even funny at times.
Beware of spelling errors though, it sucked me out of the story sometimes but if you can look past that, this is one hell of a story.
The dirty talk 😍🤌🏻🥵
A Syren heroine who can take care of herself and fights back instead of being a wilting flower.
A dark, broody Pirate captain hero who will do anything, including keeping her prisoner, in order to keep her.
If you like pirates, you will LOVE this!

The blurb and premise of this book sounded interesting and I was really excited to read it. I love The Little Mermaid so a retelling mixed with pirates sounded amazing.
But unfortunately this book wasn’t for me. I just couldn’t get into the story. The dialogue felt kind of clunky and awkward, and at times too modern for the story.
Thank you Metal Blonde Books & NetGalley for the eARC. Receiving ARC didn’t affect my opinion of the book.

I really enjoyed this story! The MCs are truly complex, and their arcs and love story aren’t rushed. I love how the MMC is so open with his feelings in the second half, overall the vulnerability of the characters sucked you in. The sad parts of the book mostly surround deaths, and I did cry for one of them… in some ways, I feel like most of the characters don’t grieve as much as I would expect of them for each death… but it also helps to keep the story moving along. The spice of this book is also perfect in my opinion - I loved how raunchy and yet tender they could be, I loved how assertive and nonyielding the FMC was and how she kept the MMC accountable for all of his actions. Overall, a great read! I’m excited to read the next one about Larimar!

Kijk, als BookTok mij zegt: "Dit boek is een mix tussen De Kleine Zeemeermin en Pirates of the Carribean" dan ga ik dat boek lezen. No brainer.
Het was een goeie mix, dat zeker wel. Zeemeerminnen, piraten, vampieren, zombies, zeeheksen, krakens, de nodige spice, een paar harten die worden uitgerukt en opgegeten,... You name it. Perfecte mix.
Nope.
