I appreciated Roach's sarcasm and irreverence, however by the end of the book it started to wear thin a bit. I did like her topics and ever thorough research. Enjoyable science read.

Funny, gross, informative, Mary Roach you son of a bitch you’ve done it again. My main complaint is why in the fuck can I never remember a single fact from one of her books after I finished reading them?

So interesting! This may not be for everyone as it deals with the whole digestive tract.
I learned a lot! I feel like I am 'devouring' her books! Glad my first book from her was Stiff; I got the one I was most worried about done first. If all of her books are half as good as Gulp, I will be a happy camper!

as a person who regularly laughs at poop and fart jokes, i did really enjoy this book. if you don’t vibe with this author’s sense of humor, this is not going to be the book for you.
mary roach delves into the science behind different bodily parts involved in digestion whether it be the mouth and saliva, stomachs and competitive eating, or pooping (and if elvis actually did die from constipation). it’s a fun read, but i can see this being a lil bit too graphic for some people.
i enjoyed reading this book most by reading a few chapters at a time rather than sitting down and devouring this book in one full read, and i feel like i learned a lot from it. will i ever use these facts? probably not, unless i want to startle people at a cocktail party, but nevertheless, an enjoyable read.
Finished this evening. Another thoroughly entertaining, educational and downright funny book in equal parts from Roach. I certainly learned more than I knew before about the medical and sociological impacts of various digestive systems, including the lapses of judgement or just sheer ignorance made by medical professionals at the time they were practicing.
Also, a segment in the book that describes lab rats being outfitted in what amounts to tiny, tailor made leather outfits designed to prevent them from coprophagy, as the study was attempting to determine the nutritional reasoning for the rats behavior. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/BsID2DuCIAAFeeo.png If you're curious about what that looked like, as it wasn't included as an illustration.
There's too many individually interesting segments or chapters for me to go into detail about each, but I would recommend it to anyone who's had digestive issues, are interested in history, or just want something different to read overall.
