this is such a big improvement from the first 3 books. it helped that we didn’t meet the fmc in the earlier books & she wasn’t hinted at before we got to this book bc that usually takes a lot of the fun out for me with interconnected standalones - i hate anything being spoiled and it feels like one big spoiler. we saw a lot of santiago before redeemed so we can really appreciate the change in him in a way that would be harder for us to conceptualise had we not known him 3 books ago!

also this is probably a me issue but the message of this book felt very “yeah life sucks but stop acknowledging how much it sucks and get over it already” and i hate that in otherwise lighthearted books i didn’t come here for a lecture😭

I wanted to read this book because I love Lauren Asher’s work. I think her work is addictive. She is brilliant and amazing! I adored the Dreamland Billionaire Series and still think about the Kane Family almost daily. I wanted to read more of Lauren’s work whilst waiting for Love Redesigned. I read Collided back in October and was just dying to read Santiago’s story.

This book has two points of view. The first is Santiago Alatorre. One misstep destroys his career. He went from the most eligible bachelor in the Forumla 1 to a monster that was hiding from the world. Until Chloe breaks into his house. His new fake girlfriend is a temporary fix to his biggest problem. But as the game changes, so does his feelings. There's only one issue from truly claiming his feeling over her. And that is Santiago. The second point of view is Chloe Carter. It all started with a birthday wish, some vodka and an ancestry kit. That was how Chloe found herself in Italy to try and find her long-lost farther. But one decision has landed her with a fake boyfriend she doesn’t want. The more they pretend, the easier the ruse is becoming. Chloe told herself not to fall in love with a liar like Santiago. She should have listened.

THE PROLOGUE OF THIS BOOK HAS ME GASPING. IT WAS LITERALLY JUST STARTED AND I WAS SO SHOOK. THAT WAS JUST CRUEL. It was addictive from beginning to end. We were used to see these boys being emotional damage and mentally need fixing, but putting on a brave face and then being these hot and sexy drivers. But then when it’s a physical disability and people start to treat you differently, it is the complete other side of the coin. Both Chloe and Santiago broke my heart with how they both see themselves. Santi thinking that him not having a leg was making his ugly or that he can’t be the sexy driver it was heartbreaking. I was almost screaming with the delight when he drove again and when he won the Championship. Chloe also killed me with growing up from a broken home that all she wants is a loving family and yet she has still got all the love in her heart. The way these two were helping each other by Chloe showing Santi that he still is a sexy F1 driver and Santi showing Chloe that DNA doesn’t define you just warms my heart.

I understand why the gang wasn’t the focus in this book with it being the last book of the series, but the epilogue wanted me to have another book just with the gang being social and having all the banter. I missed all of them all together. As much as I'm all for expressing your feeling I felt like some of the declarations were getting a tad cringy, especially towards the end with the third-act conflict. I get Santi and Chloe showing their love after the conflict but it was all forgiven, get back to pushing each other buttons please.

I would love for Lauren to write a book on Marko and Stella because something is going on between them and I would love that book in like fifteen years.

P.S Jax’s is still my F1 boyfriend.

5 millions stars!!! 💜 I loved this one with my entire being. Chloe and Santiago deserve everything and more. I love them so much. Santiago had from the first book and this didn't disappoint at all. Noah was also such a sweetheart in this one, I actually loved him a lot which is so funny because I remember when I hated him lol but he really has grown on me. The plot of this was amazing truly. Chloe is so sweet. I am so sad to be done with this series and to be leaving this universe. I feel like I'm leaving a group of friends behind but I loved getting to know these characters and their stories. I'm going to miss them <3

And that's a wrap on the series! I don't know how I'm gonna get over this.
I thought Santiago was great during the first book so I was excited to learn more about his story. Of course the prologue had to be devastating, so cruel of Lauren Asher to make me cry since the start of the book.
I loved Chloe, her strength and positivity were just what Santiago needed and I love me some good old fake dating so everything was set up for me to love the book.
Except.. I kind of missed the Formula 1 setting, which for obvious reasons was not present, and the other protagonists. It's true that Maya and Noah appear, especially at the start of the book, but I definitely missed Liam, Sophie, Jax and even Elena.
A great ending for the series even if I felt disappointed in some aspects.

5 MF STARS I KNEW SANTIAGO WAS GOING TO BE MY FAVORITE RACER!!!!
This book was amazing and made me feel like how I felt when I read the heart principle in that I really care and love these characters. Although I don’t relate to them as much I still understand them and absolutely love them individually and together.

I love how Santiago treated Chloe in that he always wanted what was best for her and didn’t like that she had to grow up the way she did. I love how he did things for her because of this too i.e. the mom thing, the dad thing, and even Brooke in the end of the book. I also love how Chloe never pushed Santiago on the subject of racing and his prosthetic. She only ever encouraged him to try to do things that dealt with his last slowly but surely. Also she made sure he was confident, proud, and loved himself before you know because she knew the importance of it like she said.

I love the fake dating trope so I guess that’s just another reason as to why I loved this book.

Lastly, I loved this book because reading it felt safe and like being with someone you love whether familial, friendship, or romantic. It felt safe, comfortable, and sweet even in the third act conflict.
I say even in the third act conflict, because even though it’s a romance novel and I know they’re going to end up together I didn’t feel very anxious like I usually do. You could tell that these characters don’t just love each other but like the book says are IN love with each other. There was never doubt in my mind or theirs that they loved each other even in the conflict which doesn’t happen often in romance novels ESPECIALLY ones with the fake dating trope.
