This was…disappointing. I’ll still probably read the next one since they FINALLY are getting into the meat of things. But idk, I found myself bored. It was just too much banter not enough substance. (Never thought I’d say it’s too much banter but here we are)

Adorable. I loved the original fanfic and this reimagined successor is so fun. Osric is just a lovable rake and the harder he falls, the more of him there is to love.
I listened to the audio and will need to go back and revisit the text to truly capture the hilarity of the clever lines that are thrown out with such casualness, they're easy to miss.
The Pride and Prejudice callback to Aurienne's bright eyes is such delightful fanservice.
Very much excited to read the second installment!

This is an enjoyable book that doesn't take itself too seriously and I think should be reviewed in that spirit too.
I know this author from fanfic and read her work years ago so I am familiar with the style. While I enjoyed a lot of aspects of this book, I dont think its quite as charming as the fic she wrote.
What worked - I liked the MCs quite a lot. I've seen a lot of negative opinions, but I was relieved to see main characters with real flaws. They are a bit annoying but also quite charming. The character development is slow, so slow that I think there is still a good bit to go in that regard. We never even get the full story of her background.
For a romantasy, I am a fan of the world building. The different orders for different specialisations in magic and how they interact was great. It was nice to see Ireland included as an independent, talented order.
Pacing of relationship is slow but I think more believable for that. I think the eventual shift was maybe a bit sudden but not totally unrealistic. It is an actual enemies to lovers. (Well, not quite lovers)
What didnt work so well - sometimes the humour and the use of slang fell flat. For the most part it worked.
The plot was extremely slow to make way for character development. I dont mind that, but the things they did for her to try help him felt repetitive.
For a book that is supposed to be independent from the fic, it feels awfully similar. the dance scene, the way they look, their personalities, even their jobs </spoilers>. I maybe would have distanced from Dramione coded couples for at least the first book.
Anyway all this to say, if you're looking for a fun, slow enemies to lovers, you may like this. I also think Dramione fans may be interested too.
