The first half of the book reads as an average YA fiction book, with the female protagonist lamenting her past and who is now being swept off her feet by the quintessential cool, suave asshole. Besides that, certain life events which happen to Lily feel a little too optimistic or unrealistic
(like the immediate success of her business, which she could afford to start, the fact Alyssa decided to walk in and employ herself while also happening to be Ryle's sister, and the fact that Atlas has become a successful restaurant chef and business owner).

But by the second half of the book, the portrayal of the domestic abuse scenes gain greater severity, and showcases the flawed thinking Lily had held towards domestic abuse. Yet, it also shows a flawed portrayal of domestic abuse, and flawed reasoning behind causes and effects of domestic abuse
(people don't often stay in domestic relationships because they love their partner too much)
. I find the relationship between Lily and Atlas to be the best part of the book (although sometimes cheesy and YA-like).

This book was not bad , but it was short of the spectacle as praised by BookTok. The language felt flat, the tone immature, and it's themes underdeveloped. Also, there are wayyyy too many mentions of sex. But it was still semi-enjoyable to read.

Something about the way Colleen writes. It’s like having a conversation with a friend. This story grabbed me from the get go and was so relatable. Everything about this book just had me turning the page and escaping right into their reality.

I’d start off by saying: This isn’t a romance book, it’s mainly about domestic abuse and the struggles of woman in these situations. It had repetitive words, phrases or paragraphs! It had quite a few cringe moments that weren't intended to be cringe however it was easy to read and entertaining.

I actually didn’t love Rlye even from the jump so i wasn’t invested in them.. like at all. I also wasn’t really attached to Atlas either in anyway and didn’t see the chemistry, i also didn’t really enjoy the whole age gap thing.

I will say Lily is compelling as a character while saying this i also found none of the characters in this book likeable especially Ellen. overall the message is impactful & great: was it done well: not too sure!

This is a book about domestic violence not a romance book. I know this is a very personal book to colleen, and i'm happy for people who've read this book and gain better understanding about domestic violence but i think it could've tackle the subject a little bit better.

Again, this is a personal book for colleen and she does mention that this is doesn't describe every dv and abuse, and should'nt be the only representation.

I think one of the big promblems of this book is how it almost forgive ryle, we don't see him suffer any consequences and it feels like they just brushed off his actions.

I had really high hopes for this book because it was so hyped up on tiktok. I thought the first half of the book was really predictable but that slowly changed. I laughed out loud but I also shed a few tears. I enjoyed reading it but I think it’s overhyped.

While I was engaged enough to keep reading the book I’m not too sire how much I enjoyed it. There were moments that I found cringe and some that were enjoyable but there were a lot of upsetting moments due to scenes of
violence and domestic abuse
. I think there should have been more trigger warnings on the book as sensitive topics are mentioned quite frequently.
