Barbara is smart and angry, and she lashes out at everyone. She's very lucky to have supportive people who don't give up on her, because she doesn't make it easy. Eventually, Barbara learns how to deal with the unthinkable, and learns that she is stronger than she thinks.

Such a beautiful sentiment to struggle and perseverance. It really hit home for me and was a truly amazing ride start to finish. Its good to know that I too have killed giants.

Barbara is a weird kid with an impressive active imagination: she's prepping to kill some giants. She's got problems at home. She's got problems at school. And then one day the giant comes and a secret is revealed and all is solved.

The story of this is good, but the art was...confusing? Especially at first. I had a hard time following along for awhile. I guess it's just not quite my style. But it works with the story, which is good. How's that for a deep review?

Released as a seven-issue, self-contained comic book series, about a teenage girl in the modern day who claims to kill giants. Difficult to expand much on that without spoilers. This book will upset you.

Nothing about this is well-done on a technical level, but I still found it effective. The writing is... okay, but there's very little payoff until the end. The art is not great and sometimes make it hard to tell what's going on.

The creators have pre- and post-issue comic book conversations between each other. These are terrible in both their art and prose and will make you hate them both.

I cried. A lot.
Bound to happen as I went to a similar experience of losing a loved one, though I was older than Barbara was (on that side I identified a good deal with the older sister dealing with her grief as well as keeping the house together and doing all that stuff you have to do when... well)

I liked that Barbara was not a good relative-of-someone-ill. She's angry, she's abrasive, she's loud. She cant't just accepting.
And it's heartwrenching to see her create the giant, a physical enemy she can try and stop because she can't truly understand what's going on, needs to have someone she can beat up for her mom sake.
Her mom she can't bear to look at, because to her the woman that can barely speak and is hooked to machines is not her mom.
But at the end she's able to let other people in, to confront the reality of what's happening and in spite of everything life will go on... i already said i cried right?

The art works really well with the story, all the pages during the climax are: woah.
