OMG. I grabbed the audiobook because I needed something to listen to in the car. This reads like really bad fan fiction. Everything is so overdramatic. Everything that happens is in the extreme, very good or very bad. All the characters are so very good and perfect. Lots of chatting about how painful Poppy's impending death from cancer will be, which is great for my commute to work, I am sure.
Doing a weeding of my book collection brought me back to a series I loved as a pre-teen and thanks to nostalgia I decided to give it a re-read. Verdict? It was still okay. Secret vampire had never been one of my favourite books in the Night World series as I always found James felt like a watered down vampire version of Gabriel from L.J. Smith's Dark Visions series but I still enjoyed Poppy and Philip. It's still a fun easy read if you want some brain candy and want to enjoy a YA book about vampires that's better than Twilight.
I bought this for a trip to Alabama and then didn't even touch it...but that aside, it was pretty decent. It's by the same author as Vampire Diaries so the writing style is the same so it flows and the plot moves quickly. I like these books more then those like Twilight, there is a bit of depth to them. It's a decent book so I'll move on to the second.
The beginning was quite boring and too descriptive with each person's character. The main character's illness is very rushed and her turning is quite boring. Half way through the book it gets better, but I probably won't continue the series.
Lately I've been re-reading a lot of my childhood favorites; L.J. Smith was a favorite author and I adored the Night World series.
Poppy's story was my least favorite of the series, but it was still fun to spend an hour on a rainy afternoon with this book.
